Somebody needs a hug

Saw this at Espn.com this morning - a minor league coach has a serious meltdown (definitely watch the video). After a close play at second, the coach took umbrage with the umpire for calling the runner safe. It really went downhill from there. I can only hope that somebody within the organization is already taking action to fire this jerk.

At this same time, I hope some MLB umps take note of how the umpires in this video acted - after ejecting him, they just turned their backs and said nothing.

Fire him? I don't think so. That was the most entertaining moment in baseball this year and it came from a minor league umpire. That was the best of manager temper tantrums rolled up in one. The umpires did behave well but I don't know if they had a choice.

They shouldn't fire him if he's there to provide entertainment. However, on the off chance that he's there to coach a baseball team, they may want to re-examine his job description.

And the umps most certainly do have a choice in how they respond. Sure there may be some guidelines in place telling them how to act and react, but you wouldn't know that by looking at the MLB umps.
